Donald J. Eget, 87, of Indiana, PA., passed away on Friday, February 28, 2020 at Arista Care Nursing Home, Hillsdale, PA.
He was the son of Chester and Helen (Mahute) Burger Eget, born May 7, 1932 in Blackburn, PA.
Don graduated from Baceria, Coalport, Irvona High School in 1950 he went on to graduate from Penn State University in 1955 as a Mining Engineer. He worked for Vince Hamill Construction in Pittsburgh, Syntron – FMC in Homer City, Barnes and Tucker Coal Co., and finished his working career at R & P Coal Company where he was an Environmental Supervisor of noise and dust pollution in the mines.
He served on an Ad Hoc Committee beginning in 1971, when the new federal noise and dust regulation went into effect.
Don was proud of obtaining his Professional Engineer License.
In June 22, 1957, he married, Phyllis Veedock Eget who proceeded him in death, in April 1970. He Married Kathleen “Kitty” (Kovick) Eget, July 3, 1971.
He was a proud Slovak, who enjoyed polka music, polka Masses, dancing polkas and listening to and following Button Box Music. As well as eating many Slovak foods especially perohi and nut roll. Don sang with the Western PA Slovene Culture Group for a number of years.
Don had been a member of the Indiana Elks and Lions Clubs and the Bishop Connare Vocations Club who supported vocations within the church. He was a member of the Church of the Resurrection, where he was a member of the choir.
Don was an avid football fan and collector of football memorabilia.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen “Kitty” (Kovick) Eget of Indiana; four children, Donald Michael Eget and wife Angie of GA, Terri Champ and husband Patrick of Pittsburgh, Vince Eget and wife Elena of GA and Larry Eget and wife Lisa of VA; eight grandchildren, Collen and Christine Champ, Taylor, Matthew, Meredith, Carter, Abby and Reed Eget.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Burger in October of 1932 and Helen Burger Eget in December of 2005 his Stepfather, Joseph Eget, his first wife, Phyllis Veedock Eget and one brother Joseph Eget.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm with a prayer service at 6:15 pm at the McCabe~Roof Funeral Home, 565 Franklin St. Clymer. Don’s Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 am at the Church of the Resurrection, Ernest site with Fr. James B. Morley and Fr. Lawrence Manches as celebrants. Interment will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery, Indiana.
