Russell D. Hoy, 83 of Penn Run, PA., passed away at home on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the son of Russell C. and Margaret (Dias) Hoy, born June 3, 1940, in Heshbon, PA.
Russ was one of the few who could truly say “been there done that”. During his lifetime he was a proud US Marine, Police Officer, Western PA Humane Officer and spent several years in the coal, oil and gas industries as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator. His true passion was trucking which led him to running coast to coast hauling cars introducing both his son and son-in-law to the industry.
Russ was a lifetime member of Owner-Operator Independent Drivers
Association, Valley Dairy Breakfast Club, J and S Saddle Club but first and foremost he loved being a horse show Dad and Pap. Starting in 1970, through his last breath he was known as the breakfast chef at the horse shows. He loved fishing with his daughter, LuAnn, playing his harmonica and spending countless hours in his garage.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce E. (Howorth) Hoy, four children, Debra (Joseph) Rorabaugh of Clymer, LuAnn Rogerson and Fiancé Bill McIntire, Creekside, Rusty (Barb) Hoy of Clymer, Cheryl (Buddy) Gardner of Clymer, three siblings, Charles (Karen) Hoy of Denver, Bonnie Maughan of Arcadia, Mike (Amanda) Hoy, seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and his three fur babies, Sarge, Spike, and Daisy.
Russ was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Viola Hoy and Raymond Hoy, in-laws, Thomas and Dorothy Howorth, and special friend, Theresa Young.
The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff from Penn Homes and Penn Homes Hospice.
Friends will be received on Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 11 am to 3 pm at the McCabe~Roof Funeral Home, 565 Franklin St., Clymer.
