Wayne C Berkey, 72 of Johnstown, PA., passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was the son of Alton L. and Nancy J. (Cober) Berkey, born May 17, 1952 in Johnstown.
Wayne graduated from Conemaugh Twp. High School where he sang in the chorus, played in the band and was on the wrestling team. After high school he went to Val Tech for auto mechanics. Wayne loved cars! He worked for Jats Transmission and several car dealerships as a transmission specialist and mechanic. Wayne also spent eleven years as a mine mechanic for Bethlem Mines. For the last 25 years he owned and operated his own auto repair shop “Berkey Enterprises.” He enjoyed providing customer services and making new friends. Spending time with his family was the joy of his life. In his free time, he enjoyed camping neighborhood walks, family gatherings and he was so proud of his Harley Anniversary Edition. Wayne’s grandchildren meant the world to him, and he was so proud of them all.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Brant-Lozensky) Berkey, three siblings, sister, Linda (Reid) Pletcher, brothers, Daniel and Corey (Dawn) Berkey, children, Jodi, (Chad) Plummer, Jacob (Lauren), Jason Lozensky and Lori (Brion) Abramoski, Grandchildren, Addyson Replogle, McKensi Ponka, Gavin Ponka, Kylie Lozensky and Delia Abramoski, great-granddaughter Oakley.
Wayne is also survived by several brother and sister-in-laws and many nieces, nephews and cousins, and Bella “not our dog.” A special thanks to all his friends and church family.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Gary Berkey.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, from 9 am to 11 am at the Greater Johnstown Christian Fellowship Church, 3429 Elton Road, Johnstown, PA. His funeral service will follow at 11 am with Pastor James Gay and Pastor Gary Tustin, officiating. Interment will be private for the family in the Berkey Cemetery. The McCabe~Roof Funeral Home, 565 Franklin St., Clymer is assisting the Berkey family.
